It had been a very long and very painful night, but it was over at last and Awali got to look down on three beautiful and rather healthy cubs, cradled in her paws. Admittedly she had been frightened of the thought of motherhood at first, but now it didn’t seem so bad after all. She could get used to this…
Had she only gotten the chance.
In the following moment, the sound of the padding of paws closed in on her and she felt a presence behind her. She turned and looked at one of her pridesisters, Leta.
“I see your cubs are born, Awali,” the old lioness said. “They’re handsome lads, that’s for sure.”
Awali gave Leta a tired smile. “Actually, one of them is a girl.”
“My mistake,” mumbled Leta. “But I didn’t come here to chat anyway. The King is coming. Don’t think he’ll be too pleased to see them little furballs of yours.”
Leta left as quickly as she had arrived, but the new mother did not let the elder's warning scare her. No one would harm innocent cubs...
...right?
--
The sun had barely begun to rise and the sweet, calm silence was broken only by the cries of hungry cubs.
“Shh, my little ones,” a soothe voice murmured. “It’ll be all right.”
Meanwhile, a few miles from there, a wounded lioness limped away, glancing one last time at her former home.
Well, would you look at that. I actually wrote something. It's not very good, but I was never really good at writing anyway
So, yeah, I decided to start sort of a story thing which I've thought of for a while. I don't really have much to say about it now, but I'll keep updating and see how far it goes.
